The warning

Chapter 5 - The Warning

The silence felt louder after he left.

Aanya stood frozen for a moment, staring at the closed door.

"To finish what they started."

His words kept repeating in her head.

What did that even mean?

What had her family done?

Her hands trembled slightly as she picked up her phone.

She needed answers.

Now.

She dialed her father.

The call rang once... twice...

Then-

"Hello?"

Relief hit her instantly.

"Papa-"

"Beta, is everything okay?" his voice sounded tired. Worried.

Her throat tightened.

For a second, she almost told him everything.

The marriage.

The deal.

The truth.

But she remembered his rule.

Don't tell anyone the truth.

Her grip on the phone tightened.

"Papa... is there something you're not telling me?"

Silence.

Too long.

Too heavy.

"What do you mean?" he asked carefully.

Aanya's heart started racing.

That tone.

Defensive.

Hiding something.

"About the debt... about everything," she pushed. "Is there more?"

Another pause.

And then-

"No," he said. "There's nothing you need to worry about."

Aanya closed her eyes.

He was lying.

She could feel it.

"Take care of yourself," he added quickly. "We'll fix everything."

Fix?

Or hide?

The call ended.

And Aanya was left with more questions than answers.

Hours passed.

The clock ticked slowly.

Painfully.

Every second stretching her anxiety further.

Where was he?

What was he doing?

The door finally opened.

Aanya turned instantly.

And froze.

He didn't look the same.

Not calm.

Not composed.

There was something darker in his expression.

Something colder.

And for the first time-

Aanya felt afraid of him.

"You're back," she said quietly.

He didn't respond.

Just walked in, loosening his sleeves, his movements sharper than before.

"Answer me," she added, her voice firmer this time. "What did you mean?"

Still nothing.

That annoyed her.

"No more games," she snapped. "I deserve to know-"

"No."

The word cut through the air.

Sharp.

Final.

Aanya fell silent.

He turned to face her.

And this time-

There was no calm left.

Just anger.

Controlled... but barely.

"Be careful what you ask for," he said quietly.

"Some truths don't fix things."

"They break them."

Aanya swallowed hard.

But she didn't back down.

"Then let it break," she said. "Because I'm already living a lie."

For a second-

Something shifted in his expression.

Something almost... unexpected.

But it disappeared just as quickly.

"You want the truth?" he asked.

Her heart pounded.

"Yes."

He stepped closer.

Slow. Measured.

Every step increasing the tension between them.

"Your father," he said, his voice low,

"didn't just lose money."

Aanya's breath hitched.

"He took something that wasn't his."

Her mind raced.

"What are you talking about?"

His jaw tightened.

And then-

"He destroyed someone's life."

The words hit harder than anything else.

Aanya shook her head immediately.

"No. That's not true."

But her voice lacked confidence.

"Believe what you want," he said coldly.

"But don't pretend your family is innocent."

"No," she insisted, stepping back. "You're lying. You're just trying to justify this-this madness!"

His expression darkened instantly.

In one quick movement-

He grabbed her wrist.

Not painfully.

But firmly.

Enough to stop her.

Enough to make her heart race.

"Do I look like I need justification?" he said quietly.

Dangerously quietly.

Aanya froze.

Because in that moment-

She realized something terrifying.

He believed every word he was saying.

A sound broke the tension.

A knock on the door.

Sharp. Urgent.

He released her instantly.

His expression shifting back to cold control.

"Sir," a voice came from outside, slightly panicked.

"There's a problem."

Aanya's heart skipped.

He didn't move immediately.

Just glanced at her once.

As if deciding something.

Then he walked to the door and opened it slightly.

"What is it?"

"Someone tried to access the old files," the man said quickly.

"Your father's case."

Aanya's breath caught.

Her father?

"And?" he asked calmly.

"We think..." the man hesitated.

And then said the words that made everything worse-

"They know about her."

Silence.

Heavy.

Dangerous silence.

Slowly-

He turned his head.

And looked at Aanya.

Not with anger.

Not with calm.

But with something far more terrifying.

"Looks like," he said quietly,

"you're not as safe as I thought."

Aanya's heart stopped.

"What does that mean?"

But she already knew.

Deep down-

She already knew.

This wasn't just his revenge anymore.

She was part of it.

And now-

Someone else was coming.

Who do you think is after Aanya? 😳

And what did her father REALLY do?

Thank you all for being here tonight. This book isn’t just something I wrote—it’s something we’re building together. My goal for it is simple: I want it to feel like your story as much as mine. That means three things. First, I’m writing chapters that leave space for you—moments that ask “What would you do?” so your replies, theories, and art become part of the world. Second, I’ll share drafts and deleted scenes along the way, not just the polished final, because fans deserve to see the mess and joy behind the magic. I’m not chasing a perfect bestseller list. I’m chasing aliveness: fans making playlists for characters, drawing side stories, arguing about that one plot twist. If a line I write sparks your sketch, your post, your debate at lunch—that’s the win. So my promise: I’ll show up with honesty, update you consistently, and credit the community that shapes this book. Help me carry it, and we’ll make something none of us could make alone. Thank you—let’s build this together❤️
